Today is the court case of the assault on “Meepura” Editor

The Sri Lankan government should fulfill its commitments to the United Nations Human Rights Council by ensuring that foreign judges and prosecutors play a significant role in the mandated accountability mechanism for wartime abuses, Human Rights Watch said today. On January 21, 2016, President Maithripala Sirisena told the BBC, contrary to Sri Lanka’s council commitments, that he will “never agree to international involvement,” saying “[w]e have more than enough specialists, experts and knowledgeable people in our country to solve our internal issues."

A Writ Mandamus has been filed against the Attorney General on the 05th September 2015 Case No. CA/WRIT/375/15 by Lakshan Dias AAL, on behalf of “Right to Life Human Rights Center” due to the negligence of not filing a case under Torture Act for the torture incident of Peruma Hewa Sandun Malinga, Seventeen Years old residence of Kosmo Farm, Akurukanduwa, Meegahakiwula. Attorney General is responsible to file case on Police torture under the torture act No. 22 of 1994 if a person is being tortured by the police officials. Since he has not done his responsibility the Right to Life Human Rights Center took the initiative to file a Writ Mandamus against Attorney General.

Why are the police allowed and encouraged to lie?
The video footage is fairly clear. First we see a tall policeman wearing a helmet standing with his arm stretched towards the other side of the road. Then we see a scooter stopped just next to him. There is one man sat on the scooter. Looking closer, we see that the policeman is carrying a pistol in his outstretched hand. The pistol is directed towards somebody on the other side of the road.
