Mechanism to monitor the government on the implementation of UN CAT recommendations

Right to Life Human Rights Center (R2L) took the initiation to prepare a monitoring mechanism along with Sri Lankan Civil Society Collective against torture, to monitor the recommendations given by United Nations Committee against Torture (UN CAT) to Sri Lanka at the end of 2016 UN CAT session in Geneva. Sri Lankan government has agreed to implement the recommendations and need to submit a report to UN CAT in 2020 regarding the situation in Sri Lanka on torture from 2017 – 2020.

The workshop was held at Global Towers Hotel (GTH) at Wellawatte on 28th November and there were representatives from 21 civil society organizations.

                

Collectively a monitoring mechanism was prepared with the present representatives of the Network and the responsibilities were disseminated among them.

Rasik Sanjeewa Weerawickrama AAL, Ermiza Tegal AAL, Philip Dissanyake & Mirak Raheem were the resource persons for the workshop.
