Workshop on Pluralism in Negombo

On 20 th and 21 st of February 2018, a workshop was held at Rani Beach Resort, Negombo on Pluralism organized by National Peace Council (NPC) and Right to Life Human Rights Centre (R2L). There were 37 members of the Collective Engagement for Religious Coexistence of Gampaha District specifically in Negombo area was present consist of all religion and government and civil society representatives. Specially leaders of all religions were present at the workshop and for the initiative. Mr. Sujith Abewickreme, International Trainer, Global Council Trustee, United Religions Initiative was the resource
person for the workshop.

The workshop was focused on how better the society can be looked into rather than being strict to the format in which the people of all religion and ethnic groups live. The Mr. A. K. R. Alawatte Divisional Secretary Negombo was present at the workshop as special guest addressed the gathering.

Mr. M. U. M. Uwais, Senior Project Officer NPC, Ms. Kethma Wickramasinghe, Project Officer NPC, Mr. Prasanga Fernando, Project Coordinator R2L, Ms. Fathima Cadar, Field Officer R2L were organizing the workshop from both organizations.

It is planned to continue a series of workshop related to religious coexistence. The committee will meet bi-monthly and will discuss on the issues that have in Negombo area. Especially to prioritize the list of areas that the group should looked into and get themselves engaged.
