Returning knives and axes in police custody: Acting OIC interdicted

Service of the Acting Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Wellambada police station in Kandy has been interdicted with immediate effect, for attempting to return knives and axes that were in Police custody, as stated by Police Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara.

According to the information from the Police, these knives and axes were taken in to police custody during search operations that took place in April, 2019 from the Wellambada mosque. At the time of the release, these items have been listed as evidence material.

The acting OIC had been in charge while the OIC was deployed in another duty in Kandy. The items were stopped from returning, as the OIC intervened after he was informed of the act.

As appointed by Police Headquarters, DIG in charge of the division has conducted the investigation on the incident.
