MP Bimal Ratnayake announced in Parliament that the National Secretariat for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) will be brought under a new ministry within the next month.
He disclosed this information after referring to the report issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. According to Ratnayake, the Secretariat will be removed from its current ministry and placed under another ministry, as part of structural changes proposed by the government.
He further stated that the President is expected to implement this change along with certain subject amendments. Furthermore he assured that these amendments will not create any obstacles or delays in the registration process of NGOs.
