“Liya Diriya” Social Entrepreneurship Programme Launched in Anamaduwa

A new initiative aimed at building a sustainable future, strengthening families, and contributing to the national economy was officially launched in Anamaduwa under the title “Liya Diriya” Home Gardening Social Entrepreneurship Programme.

This programme is implemented by the Right to Life Human Rights Centre as part of its “Sandhara” Social Entrepreneurship Network, in collaboration with the Anamaduwa Participatory Development Foundation and the Human Rights First Aid Centre.

The concept of the “Liya Diriya” programme was introduced by Chathurika Darshani, with a vision to economically empower women through sustainable home gardening and social entrepreneurship. The initiative aims to ensure that women engaged in the programme are able to generate a stable additional monthly income of at least LKR 25,000, thereby strengthening household economies and enhancing women’s role as decision-makers within their families.

In addition to economic empowerment, the programme also emphasizes the importance of mental well-being. By encouraging participants to engage with nature and home gardening, the initiative supports improved psychological health in a time where many face increasing stress and uncertainty.

The programme further focuses on youth engagement, particularly among individuals aged 15 to 35, by encouraging their participation in agriculture and entrepreneurship. This approach contributes to addressing unemployment challenges while promoting sustainable livelihoods.

A key feature of the initiative is the adoption of the “Mother–Daughter Plan” model, which fosters intergenerational collaboration and ensures long-term sustainability of the programme.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Philip Dissanayake, Executive Director of the Right to Life Human Rights Centre. A significant number of women already involved in small-scale home gardening in the area joined the network, demonstrating strong community interest and participation.

The Right to Life Human Rights Centre extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Nimal Abeysinghe, Chairman of the Anamaduwa Participatory Development Foundation, and his team for their valuable support in organizing this impactful programme.

Through initiatives such as “Liya Diriya,” the organization continues to integrate human rights, economic empowerment, and community development, contributing to a more inclusive and resilient society in Sri Lanka.
