Social Entrepreneurship Development Center (SEDC) Launched in Anuradhapura

The Social Entrepreneurship Development Center (SEDC), a new initiative aimed at empowering marginalized communities through sustainable and human-centered entrepreneurship, was officially launched on April 7, 2026, in Anuradhapura under the Sandhara Social Entrepreneurship Network.

This programme is jointly implemented by the Right to Life Human Rights Centre and the Anuradhapura District Citizens Committee as part of their continued efforts to strengthen community resilience and promote inclusive economic opportunities.

The SEDC initiative focuses on supporting individuals facing socio-economic challenges by creating a platform that enables them to develop sustainable livelihoods with dignity and confidence. It particularly emphasizes empowering small-scale entrepreneurs, including women and individuals from vulnerable backgrounds, by enhancing their skills, product quality, and access to markets.

A key feature of the programme is its human-centered approach, which recognizes the existing strengths and potential within communities. By providing mentorship, guidance, and practical support, the initiative aims to build self-reliant entrepreneurs who can contribute meaningfully to their local economies.

The programme also promotes environmentally sustainable practices, encouraging the use of local resources, organic farming methods, and the preservation of traditional knowledge. This approach supports not only economic development but also environmental responsibility and long-term sustainability.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Philip Dissanayake, Executive Director of the Right to Life Human Rights Centre. It also brought together community members, local entrepreneurs, and representatives from partner organizations, demonstrating strong community interest and active participation in the initiative.

The Right to Life Human Rights Centre extends its sincere appreciation to Nimal Dissanayake, Secretary of the Anuradhapura District Citizens Committee, and his team for their valuable support in organizing this impactful programme.

Through the establishment of the Social Entrepreneurship Development Center (SEDC), the Right to Life Human Rights Centre continues its commitment to integrating human rights with sustainable development, creating pathways for individuals to improve their livelihoods and build a better future.
