Dentists at Sri Lankan Police Service

It has been reported that , during the past few months , certain  Police Inspectors  and some officers attached to the Sri Lankan Police Service,have assaulted  some  Citizens ,in some parts of the Island, inhumanely,to the extent of  breaking teeth.  Out of these  there are two significant  cases details of  which are given below.

On the 5th of January 2008, a cab driver by the name of Mohamad Pasmi had been assaulted  and broken a tooth  at Galle by  the Officer In Charge of Ahangama Police Station. assaulted  some  Citizens ,in some parts of the Island, inhumanely,to the extent of  breaking teeth.  Out of these  there are two significant  cases details of  which are given below On the 5th of January 2008, a cab driver by the name of Mohamad Pasmi had been assaulted  and broken a tooth  at Galle by  the Officer In Charge of Ahangama Police Station.
On the above mentioned day Ahangama Police Station  Jeep had chased a  lorry transporting  buffalos, but they could not  apprehend it.  While returning,  the Inspector had  seen the cab parked in front of a boutique, and had called the driver of the cab Pasmi and had shouted  “Are you the one who drove this?” and at the same time had assaulted him thus breaking  a tooth in the upper jaw.

All the Officers who were in  the jeep had assaulted  the driver Pasmi and had  questioned him about the lorry that transported the buffalos ,which the Police could not  apprehend.;
After that the Police had fabricated  five (5) false cases.  Failing to pay the bail of Rs,40,000/= Pasmi had to  stay in the remand  prison for four days.  On his return, Pasmi was suffering so much, he was  admitted to Thangalla Hospital  and has been warded for three days.

Other incident is reported from Dankotuwa. Victim:-Ihala Gamage Sulaweera Ananda.

On the  2nd of December 2007, Serjeant  Priyantha  and some officers  attached to Dankotuwa Police Station,  had come to Ananda’s house  and had assaulted  him  breaking a tooth, in front of  his family. This incident had been seen by the workers who were attached to the Tile Factory ,which is in  opposite side of  Ananda’s house.

The reason for this is Serjeant Priyantha had accepted a bribe of Rs.500/ from a illicit liqueur . dealer in the area and  this had been  videoed  by Ananda  through a  Camera Phone.

After assaulting , the Police had filed a false case against drunken behavior and had been produced at the Magistrates Courts. From the witness box Ananda  had wanted to reveal to the Magistrate about the broken tooth. But at the same time one lawyer from somewhere got up and  pleaded guilty and the Magistrate fined n Ananda Rs.1000/=

Ananda or his family members had never sought the services  of a lawyer.   Ananda  had mentioned this to the Prison Officers  and had wanted to go in  front of the Magistrate to say so, but he was not allowed and had been forced him to the prison.
