Right to Life Conducts Residential Workshop on “From Aid to Enterprise” Social Entrepreneurship

Workshop

The Right to Life Human Rights Centre successfully organized a two-day residential workshop titled “From Aid to Enterprise: Comprehensive Capacity Building in Social Entrepreneurship” on 19 and 20 December 2025 at the Sri Lanka Foundation.

The programme brought together Coordinators of Human Rights and Social Entrepreneurship Development Centres (HRSEDCs), human rights defenders, and key stakeholders from across the country. The workshop aimed to strengthen the sustainability of grassroots human rights work by equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills in social entrepreneurship.

The training focused on transitioning from donor-dependent models to self-sustaining, mission-driven social enterprises that can support human rights protection and community empowerment. In particular, the workshop sought to build the capacity of the HRSEDC network in the following key areas:

  • Understanding social entrepreneurship and hybrid organizational models

  • Identifying local opportunities and underutilized resources

  • Developing sustainable business models aligned with human rights work

  • Financial viability, storytelling, and ethical risk management

The programme was highly interactive, featuring group discussions, practical exercises, and collaborative group work, which enabled participants to develop and present context-specific ideas relevant to their respective districts.

Right to Life extends its sincere appreciation to all participants for their active engagement, meaningful contributions, and collective commitment to strengthening human rights protection through innovative and sustainable approaches.
