The Ministry of Women, Child Affairs, and Social Empowerment Launches Multi-Sectoral National Action Plan to address Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.

The Ministry of Women, Child Affairs, and Social Empowerment has officially launched the Multi-Sectorial National Action Plan to Address Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Sri Lanka (2024–2028), marking a significant policy step towards creating a society free from gender based violence and discrimination.

The Action Plan, described as an “all-inclusive strategy,” brings together 13 key sectors to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach in the prevention and response to SGBV across the country.

  3. Social Protection & Welfare
  4. Education
  5. Health & Indigenous Medicine
  6. Economic Empowerment
  7. Plantation
  8. Justice and Law Reform
  9. Labour and Foreign Employment
  10. Disaster Management
  11. Mass Media
  12. Youth & Sports
  13. Transport

This multi-sectorial framework is designed to integrate actions across governmental, institutional, and community levels aiming not just at response mechanisms but also long-term preventive measures and empowerment of survivors.
