Estate worker’s wage struggle postponed for another week…

Minister of Labor Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva last decided on December 22 to give estate employers a week to make the final decision to increase the minimum daily wage of estate workers to Rs. 1,000 as per the 2021 budget proposals.

Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Labor, Jeevan Thondaman, Minister of State, Wadiwel Suresh, Member of Parliament, Kanishka Weerasinghe, Director General of the Employers ‘Federation, a number of estate workers’ leaders and managers of plantation companies, Mapa Pathirana, Secretary to the Ministry of Labor and Labor. Prabath Chandrakeerthi, Private Secretary to the Minister, Attorney-at-Law Akila Gayan Kaushalya also participated in the discussion.

Accordingly, the committee was scheduled to meet again on the 31st, but the Chairman of the Agarapathana Pradeshiya Sabha, Qadir Selvam, has been quarantined due to the coronavirus infection. so requested for a week. Also, due to the request of the estate employers for a few more days, this final decision has been postponed to the 7th.
